Brooklyn-born DJ Lady Chellez is a rarity in the music industry. In a scene plagued with male record spinners Chellez, also known as the Mixxtress, trumps that of her competitors with the ability to seamlessly create a sonic blend of dance-floor ready tunes.

Since 13, Chellez has spun records, and as a result, began aiming for a career in the radio circuit. With few women rising to fame in the New York City market, the Mixxtress admired on-air personality Angie Martinez for her success as a Latina radio jock. Growing up in New Yorks inner-city during the 90s, the current Queens resident was dedicated to getting a head start on her future goals, playing hostess to many of veteran DJ Tony Touchs mixtapes as well as hosting and djing events in high school.

ImageThe Mixxtress, a graduate of Hunter College, isnt a mixer focused solely on using Serato. Coming up in an era of vinyl records, she displays a wide variety of musical knowledge during every DJ set she spins, with the addition of utilizing the microphone to bring the crowd to their feet. Precise coordination while mixing, blending, cutting and scratching are showcased through an eclectic taste in music from electro to hip-hop.

In 2003, Lady Chellez, an avid sneaker collector, scored a gig that would set the tone for her professional radio career: a Phone Operator at WWPR Power 105.1 FM in New York City. After showing and proving her dedication, she moved her way up the ranks to later attain the position of Board Operator, producing many of the Power 105 Mixshows for the likes of DJ Clue, DJ Self, DJ Drama and the late DJ Carl Blaze. After Carls unexpected passing in 2006, Chellez honored his memory through her tireless work ethic and became the first sole female Power Mixer on Power 105 in 2007, spinning weekends. Later that year, the Mixxtress released her first mixtape, Latinos Stand Up–a collective of tracks by Latino artists that she distributed during 2007s Puerto Rican Day Parade.

ImageThe following year, Chellez was promoted to Board Op/Morning Show Producer for the famed Ed Lover Show, 5a.m. to 10a.m weekdays. The talented DJs time on air during the morning program made her a familiar name around the five boroughs and in the Tri-state areas nightclubs. Listeners also recognized her comical catchphrase, which she coined on the show: Get Outta Here Wit Alla Dat!

Besides her work as a fixture on a major market morning show, DJ Lady Chellez was recruited by 106 & Park spinner DJ Prostyle to join the All Pro DJ collective in 2009. The same year, her spot-on blending capabilities were recognized by reputable Internet radio station, AListRadio.net, where Chellez spins a variety of tunes and co-hosts–alongside Laura Stylez and Georgette C.–on the Rotten Apple Chicks, every Wednesday from 8p.m. to 10p.m. 2009 also saw the versatile Mixxtress make an appearance on BETs 106 & Park as the DJ for Freestyle Fridays and win the Latin Mixx Award for Best Female DJ. In 2010, Chellez was once again nominated as Best Female DJ for the Latin Mixx Awards, as well as scored a Friday late-night mixshow on Power 105.

From her residency at the famed downtown NYC Gold Money party to her rocking sets at Tri-state area hotspots including Hudson River Café, Suzie Wong, LQs, Providence, Talay, 46 Lounge and Allure, among others, DJ Lady Chellez is truly a masterful Mixxtress. She may be a female competing amongst her male counterparts but her innate talent speaks for itself.
